…The Gift..

I was twelve. Signs of the holiday season were sprouting up all over the city. For reasons I can’t totally remember, my usual babysitting customers weren’t calling. Although I had always counted on the money I brought in from those jobs to get my mom something special, for the first time, I wanted to include J.D., a “special friend,” who lived down the block from me who I had met over the summer. He moved to the city from Atlanta and had this sort of quiet, southern charm that made me play with my hair whenever he smiled at me.Leer más

…a voice in the Desert..

Sunrise. The cool, desert morning air surrounds me, filling my lungs and heart with a special renewal of spirit. A kind of renewal that only comes when I’m running here. Not a race, no one pushing me toward a Finish Line, just the personal motivation of mind and body to move closer to an experience of still, yet busy, desert life. My run creates a special vision as I mark my distance balancing on the split yellow line in the center of the road. I can see more than usual.Leer más

Alicia singt für Haiti

Laut MSN.com wird am Freitag ein Benefizkonzert für die Erdbebenopfer in Haiti stattfinden. Und Alicia wird mit von der Partie sein! Auch Bono, Sting, Christina Aguilera und Justin Timberlake werden bei dem Charity-Event dabei sein.
Die Veranstaltung wird auch im deutschen Fernsehen übertragen. Unter anderem strahlen VIVA, TNT Serie und CNN International das Konzert-Event aus. 2 Uhr morgens geht's bei uns los. Früh aufstehen ist also angesagt!

Nebenrolle im Musical?

Laut Medienberichten ist Alicia für eine Nebenrolle im Remake des 1930er-Jahre-Musicals „A Star Is Born“ im Gespräch. Die Hauptrollen sollen Beyoncé und Robert Downey Jr. übernehmen. Das Musical wurde bereits zwei Mal neu verfilmt – zuletzt 1976 mit Barbara Streisand und Kris Kristofferson.

…between reality and the dream… 

A few nights ago, I caught a bit of a very popular talent show that searches across the country looking for the best singer.  (Believe it or not, I actually do get a chance to peek at the TV screen maybe once a week). Although I had fun listening to the various singing styles and genres of the contestants, what I found myself actually listening to, were the journeys some of them had taken to arrive at that moment in front of the Judges.Leer más

I feel a song coming on.

Every moment is beautiful; delicious even! Every moment I'm learning and living in a way I never have before. Being present in a way I never have before. Existing in moments I never have before.

Never have I felt so calm, so purposeful in taking the time to truly observe the world around me, to live in it fully and watch it, discuss it, put time toward it. It feels really incredible - so peaceful, so complete and long overdue.

I'm grown, I'm confident, I'm secure, and so blessed to be these things.Leer más

Compassion

I was watching this amazing show on Oprah's OWN network called "Master Class" with one of my all time favorite women in the world, Maya Angelou. (Wow! This show is good!) First, I was thinking about what a GIFT a moment like that is, where you actually get to spend time with and hear the knowledge of someone as special and genius as Dr. Angelou... but I digress. Then she started talking about words and their power. How words can get into your clothes, into your hair, creep inside the walls, until they start to be all over you and make you who you are.Leer más

Let us revel in the glory

Today is the 100th anniversary of Women's International Day! Loving this! Although to me, EVERYDAY is Women's Day! So let’s celebrate how incredible we are!

International Women's Day (March 8th) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. I'm actually surprised, and disappointed, it's not a national holiday in the U.S. since it was initially founded in our country.Leer más

Remember that surprise I told you about? It's the 10th anniversary of songs in A minor in June! And we're putting out a Deluxe and Collectors Edition of the original record plus unreleased songs, a documentary, and my favorite part- two special, intimate, PIANO & I performances in New York and London!

I can't believe it's been ten years since this record. I am so blessed to have fans like all of you, who've embraced my songs with such heart. THANK YOU for all these amazing years!!
