Alicia Keys in Seattle 9.20.08 Review

14.12.2009

I found my old review I wrote back in September 2008 after my AMAZING concert experience with the one and only, ALICIA KEYS! Laughing out loud This was by far the best day of my life, next to getting a birthday shout-out from Alicia herself on Twitter! Here's my review:

Being my first concert ever (besides Bumbershoot, our local music festival), I was SOO excited for the concert. I’ve been counting down from 52 days, knowing she’ll be performing in Seattle.
I wasn't a HUGE fan of Alicia like I am now...I only knew her major hits from SIAM (Fallin, HCYDCM) and TDOAK (YDKMN, Karma, IIAGY) and all her songs from As I Am.

I was disappointed that it was held at the WaMu Theater as the venue, knowing that the WaMu isn't that great of a place. Too bad she didn't have it in KeyArena like she did back in 2002! You know, Remixed & Unplugged in A Minor has songs from her performing in Seattle Wink

Unfortunately I wasn't a AKFC member and I didn't know about it until it was too late, but I didn't care. I was going to see ALICIA!!!!!

When we got to the WaMu, my friend and I found our seats and listened to Novel (he was the opening act). When he went off stage and the lights dimmed, we all knew what was coming next!!! A KEYS!!!!! She walked out onto the stage with "Go Ahead" blasting as she did her magic. It was definitely awesome, with the whole crowd going nuts over this one woman. But who wouldn't? After she came out with a bang, then drifted into the sweet and mellow “You Don’t Know My Name”. I loved her dance she did with it...ahh so cute Laughing out loud

After performing “Teenage Love Affair” and Harlem/Spanish inspired version of “Karma”, she got the crowd cheering with Prince’s cover of “How Come You Don’t Call Me”. She got the fans to get their cell phones out and swing them to the beat of her piano. It must have been a cool sight for Ms. Keys to see everyone’s cell phone bobbing up and down in the stands. Sure knows how to work a crowd...!

Right after “How Come You Don’t Call Me”, the lights dimmed down and there was a solitary spotlight shining down on this incredible woman...her piano started turning, and “Superwoman”, started. “Superwoman” being my favorite song, I was sooo excited! She and the WNBA teamed up that year to advertise the WNBA season, and I fell in love with that song. Smile
After performing “Unbreakable”, “A Woman’s Worth”, “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” and her first hit single “Fallin’”, she disappeared for a while. The crowd was still excited for her encore performance, “No One”.

Coming out from the stage, Alicia sat down by her piano and encouraged the fans to stand up and sing along. Of course everybody did...who wouldn’t listen to this woman? Wink Everyone was involved, singing, jumping around, dancing, and waving their arms in the air, soaking up the experience. My friend and I were so excited, we spilled our water all over the floor. We didn’t care, and neither did the people around us. We were taking in every bit of this experience as possible... who knows the next time Alicia will be coming back to Seattle? I was screaming and singing along and I was SOO hype in the "Ohs"...so was the rest of the crowd. I lost my voice, but it was worth it. All that money spent on this one night was sooo worth it. This is a night I’ll never forget. Alicia Keys is my inspiration, my hero, my SUPERWOMAN!

It was an amazing experience, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next time I see Alicia in concert, particularly in SEATTLE! Smile
