We shall be very much pleased, if our request is urgently considered.
This is the sweetest story but aren't you afraid to walk the streets of New York alone? I think you should be commended for even aproaching a stranger. I'm glad it worked out and I loved the story. I think we all learned a lesson.
these things will alway's reflect in you're music
those life expierences
it give's your music a soul
Somewhere...between Hope and Life...
There is a world, another world, a different world,
a world full of love and music...
no one believed you,
no one expected you,
and nothing will stop you to make this a better world for us
Hey Alicia, I don't know if you'll ever read this but I really want to express my thanks to you and let you know just how much your new album has touched me and my family. Six months ago my niece Briana passed away, she was only 13 years old and although we knew it would happen one day, we never expected it, never thought the day would come. She was the most loved girl you'd ever meet and she in turn loved this one song of yours, "No One". My sister even recorded her singing it on her phone. Briana couldn't do alot of things other girls could do but she had a way of touching you like no one else could, she was truly a blessing. Anyway, since we lost her nothings been the same. Its been real hard for us but my sister, Cindy, you couldn't begin to imagine what shes going through. There hasn't been many ways for my sister to express her pain and how much shes hurting, but then your new album came out. Its like these lyrics were written just for Briana, a response to Brianas favorite song "No One" from her mom. My sister 'sleeps with a broken heart' everyday and truely, "nothing means anything" to her anymore without her baby. So, thank you Alicia, your album has meant so much to us, its helped us more than you'll ever know and i know Briana would have loved it.
I would have thought that given all your success, you could have offered you a few dollars in lieu of a "handful of quarters at the bottom of your hand bag"
Alicia, my guess is you probably sometimes read these and it is my hope you get to read this one. I count myself blessed to have been able to see your performance on SNL last night and been motivated to learn more about you. After reading a few of your blogs my original hopes are confirmed. Your performance moved and inspired me. You probably get that alot but I would consider myself a tuff sell. To say I am jaded would be like saying Kobe is an ok baller. Anyway, the beautiful soul revealed in your blog and the beauty of your music have reminded me there is beauty everywhere you just have to look for it. Like you I'm an easy touch when approached and asked to give. I usually give whatever is in my pockets. I believe people who humble themselves to ask should receive and not be disco nted. I hope your example and music continue to move people for many years to come. I'm glad there are people like you in the wrld. "Blessed be the pure in heart for they shall surely see God"
It is so hard to see people for who they are without dropping the assumptions one constantly makes based on appearances . So good to slow down and lift the sunglasses to really see and open the door for love. So good to say thank you alicia.
What a story and thanks for sharing it. The perspective of "thankshelping" is both "helpful" and "healthful." I am a bit "late reading it because I am somewhat new to blogging. At the age of 62, my generation is more in to "high touch" rather than "high tech," so be patience with us. As a university professor, "high tech" is a reality and the silent protest of us "baby boomers" can no longer be a convenient excuse. So, here's to you.
Frankly, I was drawn to you after enjoying for the "unteenth" time, the 1943 movie, Cabin in the Sky, starring Ethel Waters, Eddie Rochester Anderson, and Lena Horne. It was Hollywood's first all-black film since The Green Pastures. Lena Horne played the role of Georgia Brown in which she was 26 at the time. The movie was considered a musical comedy. From my perspective, it was also a form of allegory and the perspective of "thankshelping" was a seamless thread throughout the movie. Here is where you come in. If I had the resources and financial backing, I would remake this important movie and cast you in the role of Lena Horne as Georgia Brown. If not as a movie, certainly as a Broadway musical. After a successful run of the movie remake or Broadway musical, I would tell the life story of Lena Horne. You guessed it. You would have the starring role. With all that you are involved with, this would definitely be "impossible" and "doable." Your manager will probably not like the idea, but Tyler Perry, just may. Lee Ann Womack says it best, "I Hope You Dance."
BTW: Your latest CD, The Element of Freedom not only presents an eclectic you, there is a wealth of "thankshelping" in the lyrics. The intro sets the tone and context so well. It is a GREAT CD!!!!! Distance and Time is among my favorites. Stay well, continue to grow with your gift, and be safe. Most of all, don't allow anyone to "rent" space in your head. My wife and I raised a now 34 year-old with that phrase and it sustains her to this very day. It will sustain you also.
I think that just by the way this story is told it shows you in great humbleness, and that's a quality that i love in you. Even though you've been around the world and people look up to, and are inspired by you, you still have your feet placed firmly on the ground. I love what your about Alicia, from your first album to your charity work in africa, to the message you send to us as black people, that anything is possible. YES WE CAN!!!
Thats somthin Im workin on everyday 2 help an not hinder or assume because I know Ive needed help an was pass by 4 the appearance of my situation and not bcause I was truely in need.
I had a similar situation happen just last week....
Left my house filled with emotions. I could see the my breath in the air. It was a cold brisk morning, the ground had been hard for days. Empty inside, I was feeling as though I shouldn't feel so alone given the holiday hustle and the people all around.
Completed a bit of shopping and as I pulled from my parking spot an older woman walking through the parking lot looked lost and anxious. She first peered through my car window with an acknowledgement that the obvious difference in our skin tone would mean I was just another passing car. The fear in her face struck me and my foot was forced from the accelerator without thought. She was an older women, nicely dressed, but seemed a bit out of place and bit out of sorts. I pulled to the side of my aisle, at this point she couldn't really see my face. I rolled the window down and said, "Ma'am, are you okay?" The relief was not only evident in her face, but in the quick and sudden change to stride. When she caught my eyes you could see a bit of a surprise that it was actually I who called from this direction. Again, "Ma'am, are you really okay?" Her voice quivered a bit, but you could feel the relief in the air, "I've been walking for an hour, do you think you have a few cents you could spare for gas. My babies are back in the car and it's cold.....we have no gas." I pulled from my pocket a bill I hoped would fill her tank. I reached out to give it to her. Again with surprise, she looked at my hand and then up at me, "Oh thank you child. Thank you, and be blessed. A Merry Christmas to you." As she pulled the money from my hand, her sweet windburned face cracked with a smile. I asked two maybe three times if she needed a ride. Her sweet reply 'no' meant to me that I had already given her what I was meant to. I did not insist and simply shared the sentiment, "God bless you ma'am. And, a Merry Christmas to you and your babies."
I don't think I will ever forget her face....whether she used the money for gas, food cigarettes or booze, it doesn't matter. For me helping her was not in the monetary value. For me helping her was allowing her to be found again. The gift I received was from her eyes, from her soul.
Sometimes, all it takes is a smile or a little word of kindness to make the world brighter.Like you said in one of your song:lesson learned ! Those lessons don't always come from the expected places .Love,Catherine
I guess the reason that i decided to leave a message on this blog is simply for the fact that this is my birthday in 1978. Just wanted to say its ok to feel a little slighted about people you dont know you should never be ashamed though, you dont actually judge until it comes out of your mouth, your thoughts are between you and God, if you ask him he will help you look at people in a different LIGHT...
I love Alicia Keys music...but I can also tell that she has a genuine spirit about her. She is an awesome woman and a great inspiration to me alone and i know to many others out there. I really admire her for how she uses her wealth for the benefit of others and not only to her alone. She is great. A very beautiful woman inside and out. She has touched my heart greatly.
I always look forward to purchasing any new cd you may be putting out! You are great!
Im new here and just read this. I am so touched, and so NOT surprisd! Alica may be a diva starr, but that title never gets in the way of her good will and compassion.

Beautiful story and lesson learned. I'm glad you were able to help in more ways than one. Your good heart and inclination to give opened the door for you to be a blessing to her in the way she needed most. There's no telling how many people simply passed her by when all she needed was a helping hand.. a phone call. Much love and thanks for sharing.

This reminds me of a story... It was 3am and I was on my way home from work. I almost didn't go that way because that road is really dark, but I was tired and it's a quicker route. As I was rounding a bend, a man was flagging me down. I almost didn't stop, you know...dark road...strange man...single woman...First 48 show.... I then saw a HUGE deer laying in the road and the man's smashed up car, so I stopped. He was an older guy who just wanted to use my cellphone to call the police, his wife and his job. After he finished, decided to stay at least until the police arrived. Long story short(er), a few days later, I received a "Thank You" card in the mail. The police gave him my address from when he called them using my phone. Inside the card, the note said, "You were an angel! Of the 2 - 3 cars that passed, you were the ONLY one that stopped!" That felt really good!

I remember you saying that you pray to God that you’ll always have something to say. Well, I believe that God has actually given you that blessing. You speak fluently in not only language, but through the kindness of your actions. This blog is so humbling because it makes us aware of all the things that we assume. In the same token, it directly and indirectly has a way of showing us how much we need each other, and the things that we can learn from each other. Teaches us how to grow with each other. Yolanda NEEDED you, and you LEARNED from her, which, in turn, I guess you needed her too, otherwise you wouldn’t have had that lesson to learn. Wow! It’s just funny how life works. How people are placed in our lives for reasons unknown at the moment. It’s even funnier that to the world you are the amazing Ms. Alicia Keys. But to Yolanda, you were her blessing. Of ALL people, it was you! Wow! You're AMAZING!!!! I appreciate you.
Happy Thanksgiving, ((('Licia!)))
