VOCAL ILLNESS FORCES KEYS TO CANCEL TWO SHOWS

Cleveland, OH (April 23, 2008) – After cancelling a concert in Pittsburgh, PA last night, eleven-time Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, must cancel a second stop along her Lexus Presents the Alicia Keys As I Am Tour due to a continued bout with swollen vocal chords. The show was scheduled for Thursday night at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH. Ticket holders in both cities may contact the respective venues for instructions and fans with tickets for the Cleveland concert will be able to have them honored at the upcoming show in Columbus, OH.

Keys, who is currently being treated by a physician, is expected to return to the stage on Saturday, April 26th at the Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Alicia Keys recently wrapped up a successful European run and kicked off the highly anticipated U.S. leg in Hampton, VA on April 19th. The As I Am Tour is in support of Keys’ 5 X worldwide platinum album, As I Am, which has spawned smash hit songs including the Grammy Award winning, “No One,” “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” and “Teenage Love Affair.”

Alicia, I hope that your swollen cords are getting better. I can only say rest your voice. Cut out talking at all if you can. Write notes and wrap up your neck, you know the drill. Hot water and plenty of tea with lemon. Swollen cords are never fun, I can relate.

I love you alicia and i really wanted to see you here in cleveland...I haven't seen you since 2002, which was the last time you camed out here. But I work at a ticket master and i believe the reason why you canceled was because you didn't sell that many tickets at all over here in cleveland but i wish you would reschdule to a smaller venue later on instead of just canceling your concert. But get well soon.

my name is yanina....
I live from argentina.
I don't speak and read englis...

hi alicia, i hope you are well, but you must know that so many people are disappointed about the PITTSBURGH concert being cancelled. They are not giving much information about if you are returning or not, they just said to hold onto the tickets. This was my anniversary gift for me and my husband because we both think you are incredible. Please say you are returning very soon!!!!!
THANK YOU! GET WELL!

Get well, Alicia. Hope you'll be better to perform @ the Columbus show. Can't wait to see you LIVE!
Rest up!

Hi Angel OMG !!! you got to take it eazy!! lemon tea, or peppermint, and of course chicken noodle soup!
Doctor's Orders ;-D

I have to say that I was BLESSED with the opportunity to attend the Hampton, VA. concert on the 19th and I am STILL...in a total state of awe and shock. I was so mesmerized by your talent up close and personal, I play the keyboard by ear, and the one song that stuck in my ear and mind that you performed was 'I NEED YOU' I came home and learned it in 10mins...but I NEED YOU to get better soon, we as your fans especially here are SO grateful that you chose Hampton, VA as your state and city to kick off your tour, I hope you make a speedy recovery and get plenty of rest...LOVE YOU ALICIA!!!! God Bless you.

What happened to the Pittsburgh show? We were just getting ready to park across from the Pete about 7:00pm and an event staff person came up and told us the show was cancelled. We were in shock and didn't believe them at first, We both had taken off work for the day and were looking forward to the show for weeks. The staff person told us they got notification of the cancellation about 6:45pm. The doors opened at 6:30pm and we were meeting some friends inside. Why did it take them so long to inform everybody of the cancellation? I and my girlfriend have both been HUGE fans for years but this is not the way to treat your fans. We had a nice dinner at the Georgetowne Inn on Mt Washington but all we wanted to do was see and hear Alicia. From talking to other people that got turned away at the last minute, they are really upset and I mean upset. There were limo's, parking costs, days taken off work, hotel reservation, new clothes, hair appointments, nails, going out to dinner prior to the show, airfare from friends that came in from out of town, champagne, detailed cars, the list goes on and on. Just getting your money back for the cost of the ticket is a drop in the bucket compared to the total $ spent, just for her. I am assuming Alicia plans on some type of compensation, above and beyond just giving back the cost of the ticket. Her fans deserve more. Please let me know what everyone else thinks.

i definately agree with the last comment.
Me and my husband had to both take off of work and had been looking forward to this. i had surprised him with the tickets for our first year anniversary, so i feel like my gift fell through. its understandable that people get sick, but not getting word on whether alicia will be back to pittsburgh and SOON is a big let down. I think people mainly just want to know what is going on instead of being in the dark about it.

I would have to agree with 'Paul Speakman' & his comments. I have always been an Alicia Keys fan. People who know me would say I am more than a fan & that I have an obsession. Lol...w/e. I have no musical talent whatsoever (however I am HUGE on poetry & write my own) but I have a NEED for music in my life. Ms. Keys is an AMAZING musician in so many ways. If there was one concert I could attend, it would have been to see Alicia. I live in Buffalo, NY & she has never been here. I fell in love even more after 'As I Am' was released. There is so much in that album. So much change, so much passion, so much love. I had to go see her. My boyfriend & I planned for this concert for quite some time. We first got tickets for NYC & (long story) they got messed up. So, instead we decided to go to Pittsburgh. My boyfriend is in love with Pittsburgh & I wanted to go there initially but I wanted to wait until school was over. I ended up taking off of work from both of my jobs & taking off of school. My boyfriend took 2 vacation days & we rented a car and drove down. We rented a hotel room for 2 nights. So much went into this trip. This was not just a concert for me. I did the whole hair & nails thing, buying a new outfit...but it was so much more. Again...this may be a little bit obsessive but I specially ordered nail decals & earrings. We both just wanted it to be special. I was ridiculously hyped up for this event. We didn't want to drive (to the concert) because we weren't quite sure where the PEC was so we took a cab. The taxi driver was so sweet, he pulled right up & wanted to make sure we were okay. He asked an event staff member where the entrance was and this is when we found out the concert was cancelled. I as well thought it was a joke. How could this be happening? As I previously stated, I have no skills so maybe I don't understand vocal issues. But I can tell you one thing, I have been sick (throat issues) various times & you know when you're getting sick. You know when you are sick. And you know AT LEAST that morning that you are not able to perform. Not that it would have made a great deal of difference if we found out that morning (we were already down there & took off work), but it would have been a lot better than finding out 45 minutes before the concert was supposed to start. I honestly had no words for this when I found out. I have never been more dissapointed in my life. I looked forward to this day more than anything. Sure you can say it's a little obsessive. But I admire Alicia so much. Is it so bad to idolize someone? Aside from the fact that we still have not heard anything about a date reschedule, it will be impossible for us to have off of work & do it all over again. I'm not cursing out Alicia & saying I am no longer a fan. That would be impossible. I am just significantly dissapointed (my boyfriend on the another hand is furious) & still not quite sure how I feel. Because @ the same time I feel bad that I am so dissapointed. I know Alicia did not deliberatly to do this, but am I at fault? And what about a public apology? Would that be so hard?

My goddaughter and I were SO looking forward to Alicia's concert here in Pittsburgh. My goddaughter was not only crying about Alicia not coming, but also that Jordin Sparks was not coming either, due to her vocal problems as well. We were told by Ticketmaster that the show will NOT be rescheduled at all. Please Alicia, we hope you will come back to Pittsburgh soon! Alicia also cancelled in Cleveland, but those tickets are good for the Columbus show. I wish our tickets had been, as I would have been more than happy to drive to Columbus. It would have been well worth the drive. A lot of people have been saying that Alicia cancelled because the show was not sold out. Whatever the case, I hope that she will consider coming back to Pittsburgh again, maybe even consider a smaller venue, like Heinz Hall. My goddaughter and I wish her the best in any case, and hope that she recovers her voice soon.

U know wat alicia (if u even read this) I do believe that you've dealt your pittsburgh fans an extremely RAW deal. To not only CANCEL a show, but to not even acknowledge us the following day when you are all over 106 and park felt like a real stab in the back. I've been an alicia keys fan ever since i first heard "falling" back in i think 2000 or whenver. Bought every album. This must be the one concert I EVER wanted to go to, bought my ticket the day they came out! For a whole MONTH i was so excited and was soo lookin forward to April 22, told every1 i was goin, spent a week's pay check for my ticket!!! I can't tell the last time I was this disappointed. I feel it for that couple that came all the way down from buffalo. I am from another country and never thought that in my wildest dream I would b able 2 c her perform, so of course when I heard she'd be coming to Pittsburgh where I now live (no 1 good ever comes to Pittsburgh) I thought how lucky must i b!!!! I love her music soo much, it's not like i'm the crazy fanatic type, but Alicia Keys is just my girl - every1 knows that. I refuse to believe the show was cancelled because of tickets sales, Alicia would never do that to her fans... or would she? is there no way the show could b rescheduled? I do really wanna c Ne-yo 2! I would really love to hear at least SOMETHING from Alicia... i think thats the LEAST she could do!! Hope your better now, seems like you were on 106

OH MY GOD!!! Your show was so wonderful. The clip before the show with Cedric was so funny, and the stage set up and performance were outstanding. I took my 9 year old daughter who loves you.
This was her first concert and one she will never forget. As soon as we got in the car this
morning we put your CD in and she was going down the list of songs she heard from the concert.
She was a little disappointed about not getting to see Jordan Sparks, but quickly got over it once
you came on. Thank you so much for an enjoyable time and wonderful memories for my daughter.
I hope you remain in good health so that everyone can enjoy the show we saw.

Only bad part ... $35-$45 for t-shirts.

You may have to stop talking during the day. Hope you see you healthy in Atlantic City!

i'm sure that you will get over it ! you're amaizing voice can not just disapare .
xoxo

My husband and I went through so much trouble to get two tickets for our daughter's 8th Birthday. I have loved AK ever since she came out with "Fallin" and my daughter has become a great fan as well. These tickets were a great surprise on her Bday. We got them through a ton of different people who were working on getting them for us. We couldn't get any in Cleveland where we live, so we got 2 for the Pittsburgh concert. We drove there, had reserved a hotel so we wouldn't have to drive back so late, got dinner, walked up to the venue just to find out that the concert was canceled when the doors were opened. I understand people get sick unexpectedly, but her vocal chords must have been swollen a few hours before as well. Well, either way, it was a HUGE disappointment. We spent a ton of money driving to Pittsburgh and staying over night for nothing. I was hoping that by this time, Alicia would make some sort of comment about her canceling, after all, the Cleveland ticket holders got to go to Columbus and we just got ignored. I was/am also hoping that she would have rescheduled the Pittsburgh concert by now and I keep on checking online daily, but there's nothing. We have held on to our tickets since we now can't return them and hope to get to go see her in Pittsburgh. So much energy, preparation, and excitement went into that day just to be so disappointed and to not get to go see her again. Alicia, PLEASE reschedule that concert!!!!!
