Lyrics Narrative:
This was the first song that Linda Perry and I worked on together. It really amazed me how fluid the process was because it's often difficult for me to collaborate with people that I haven't known for years. But she made it extremely comfortable and easy and inspiring. At that time, she really showed me how to express my true inner voice with no hesitation. And so this song that really describes every side of love in every way, that effects everyone in the world was such a release for me. And also, it was a statement in bravery. I always wanted to do part of a song that the tempo totally changed and this song gave me my chance. And it is my favorite part of the song.

This song for me is amazingly deep and brilliant. It really captures exactly what the title states which is "The thing about love". Alicia always finds a way to emotionally connect with her songs through her voice and the way she sings it. Love it, because by her being this talented I also get to feel emotionally connected to the song each time i listen to it.<3

Recently, I have been listening to this song over and over again! This is one of my all time favorites!! The lyrics are so true, the tone in the song is beautiful, and it just hits me deep.
One of the first
I remember when I bout this album I was just starting to jog due to issues I was having and to deal with my stress. This song was like the first song I played over and over again. I just completely felt the words and it made me cry when I really needed to let go. One of my favs off the As I Am album! Its beautifully written and captures true emotions not just thoughts but emotions for sure.
