Replies for this Forum Topic
Hands down: AS I AM. Can listen to it over and over and over again. SIAM follows second - like the older style.
Mine used to be The Diary, now it is The Element Of Freedom, just love it, can't get enough of it! So it's def her best!
I'm with Sarah...AS I AM! It's the only album where I don't have to skip a song or two, I can listen through it and I LOVE that album
none......just kiddin' ............All of them are great!
ALICIA HAS GOTTEN BETTER AND BETTER! Live she is even better and i like the fact that shes simply her! not trying to be anybody else! its beautiful!
i believe the element of freedom brought back the goodness of the 1st album, songs like goodbye, rock with you arghhhhhh!
As I Am for me aswell. Love it.
i love all of them! i do! Thats what keeps me a fan with alicia! I love the way she expresses herself and emotion i guess....i love this one! I do! its special i can't put my finger on it quite yet but there is something so much more that she shares,,,of herself and feelings that is competely open! Its like....Its like she getting BETTER! I love it! I can't wait for more!
As I Am! That album has the greatest range of songs I believe. There is something for everyone and it doesn't hurt that it was there when I was going through a rough time. It fit me perfectly as far as being an expression of my feelings. I had the whole album on repeat every morning. I'm trying to get TEOF to that level cuz it is a great album to. Def got my fav songs on there but overall the best is As I Am (but not by much) lol
For me it is The Element Of Freedom.It is so great.
As for me, it's Element of Freedom! I just love it and can't stop listening to it
they all are because they're all so awesome.
I love all of Alicia's albums, i mean it! they are so wonerful, i can't get enough of her songs, her latest album is great as are all her other albums, most of her songs have inspired me.
she's a heat shame @zinhle
Wihtout question it's As I Am. But what I like most about Alicia Keys is the unplugged close intimate setting that she sometimes produces live. And the fact she's like no one else doing this, like Christina Aguilera for example. Not to say that Christina Aguilera isn't brilliant but Alicia Keys is Alicia Keys. I'm happy with that.
Hi Alicia My favorite The Element Of Freedom. I play your cd about 2 to 3 times aday the is off the chain"s . My Favorite song is Like the Sea!! , ,This Bed very very deep song Alicia it touch by soul with a lot of love!! in it.Peace Out Sexyp from Motor City Baby!!
Yes As I Am Is Fab But what is it that makes it every1s favourite? i mean even the D.OF.A.KEYS Is hot! but u have to be honest when saying a.keys unplugged album is the best unplugged yet! get it on dvd 2 grab an even better experience but! Comparing as.i.am and E.o.f i think E.O.F has more depth and definately more emosh!
I've been really listening to TEOF and honestly, I like it a lot but it still hasn't reached that AIA status for me. AIA is still my number one album. I really like all of her albums but AIA was what really solidfied me as a fan.
Hey Fam,I see i almost miss this post,But glad i caught it on time. Great post. I just love this rollercoaster ride that Alicia Keys has giving me.With her first CD,Like all new artist.Alicia wanted to and had to come out proving that she has what it takes to stay in the game.With her second CD,She got some experience under her belt.Her third CD she stretch out even more.With As i Am, I could tell that Alicia had a lot of sorrow happen in her life.But she came threw it and got stronger.That's why As i Am is her strongest CD.And my favorite.T.E.O.F. I think she had to get somethings off her chest. A woman like Alicia,You can't tell her who to love.So she gave us the T. E.O.F.Which is Another favorite of mind. But on top is As i Am.Hands Down.But that's just me.Peace and Love,BeeStrong.P.S. I still LOVE them ALL.
@beeStrong, well said! You are so right, each one of her albums had their own special journey and feel to them. You aren't the only one to feel that As I Am was her strongest thus far. TEOF is such a lovey type album...I like it, but it hasn't really pushed me to feel as deeply as As I Am did. As I Am motivated me, shoot I used to work out to it...even the slow songs. I'm actually kind of sad that I missed seeing her as i am tour.
But I am just as excited for the freedom tour!
Hey lwilson83,I have to agree with you.that was the only thing i wanted last year.just To go to the As i Am concert.And the last show was right hear in new york.But i was so bizzy i could'nt get tickets. But this time i'll be going. A birthday present to myself.(smile).I think each song has some food for thought for each and everyone who listen to them.Peace ,BeeStrong.
I love all her albums but my favorite would have to be Songs in A Minor. I love every single track on that cd. So many of them speak to me and have personally made me feel better when I go through tough times. However a lot of the songs from her other albums are some of my favorites. Alicia is one artist that never seems to disappoint.
@Beestrong And Lwilson83........ ive listen to as i am again, i understand your points i guess its wat personally captures you, EOF really make a mark 4 me,as soon as i turned it on i knew it was the one! alot of guys have become major fans cuz of this recent album,, lesson learned on as i am is definately a track that was a premonition lol so 2 say in my life!
the as i am tour was fabulous im EXTREMLEY EXCITED ABOUT T.E.O.F Tour! @missnewvillage Songs in AMinor is the foundation its the root theres no way it couldnt be loved!
Dang, that's hard! I'd have to say it's a tie between Diary of AK and As I AM. I love DOAK because it my all time favorite song "You Don't Know My Name" on it and it's songs are just so romantic and upbeat, but also great to relax to! I love AIA because it has sooooooo many great songs on it that seem to fit every mood! Plus, her AIA tour was the 1st concert I went to
aite i feelin everyone's comment nw here is mine. from the first SIAM was a great album... it was her signature into the game... DOAK was awesome... alot of inspiration an it has my fav song Wake Up on it! then there is the Unplugged album... a whole lot of energy that is jes makin u jump out ur seat everytime u hear it... the AIA it was good an alot of fan's fav bt personally i don't tink was her strongest! i found it was very commercial an nt really her... some songs was her bt generally it wasn't her. then there is TEOF. nw when this album came out i was searchin for someone to sing exactly wat i wanted to hear an this album did this for me! she really sang wat was needed to sing!!!!!! it has a very very very weak song though which is Put it in a Love song wit beyonce... its the only track that i skip!!!! nw for my fav... hands down Unplugged is my fav bt it nt a studio album so for my fav studio album i will go wit DOAK.... i don't hav to skip a single track on it!!!!!!!!!!! howeva all the albums were great!!!!!!!!
Hello SweetestPianoGirl07.I feel you on all that you said,But how could you not feel AIA.That CD is the Sh**t. I know you like UnPlugged more because it was live.It makes you feel like your at a live concert.And Alicia gave you ladies your national anthem(SUPERWOMAN).And a bonus (NO ONE).What more could you ask for.lol o.k. another Alicia Keys CD.lol But i love them all.It's just unfair to just pick one.So any answer that anyone pick will be the right answer.lol So good choice.I agree with you on that skip song on TEOF.But other than that,That CD is all that.I just think when you listen to AIA you can really see and feel Alicia Keys Growing as a woman and a Artist.We all can't stay te same we have to Grow.Peace Out,BeeStrong.
I would have to say - all of them, but with only one exception, that being As I Am, and that is only because I do not have it!
Since I am on the computer most of the day, I have all of her CD's on the hard drive, and a couple of playlists, one titled Alicia Keys:Essential, and the other Alicia Keys: More.
When the strain of dealing with (l)users gets to much, I pull up Rhythmbox and click. Instant stress relief.
I will agree with the comment about her live performances, as I have scraped quite a bit of them from YouTube.
The MTV Unplugged tracks really let AK shine. One reason to prefer a live performance is how the performer can interact with the `vibe` the audience exhibits. A really intuitive performer can feed off a good vibe and subtly improvise, and get the crowd behind them. And, AK is good at that. Just compare the MTV-Unplugged version of `How Come You Don't Call Me` to the music video of the same title. Both are fantastic performances, but in the MTV performance, she really hooks the crowd. That is why I feel, while AK is outstanding on disc, she is truly fantastic live.
O.K., There's nothing more that i LOVE more of than a LIVE concert. I understand that you totally get more from an Artist with a live show.like ITGeek said the interaction is priceless.But before we go to the concert,We have to get or buy the CD first to really enjoy the concert.And when we go to that concert and that artist is playing our song,Well that can just make your day or for some our year.lol. Most of the songs that are on UnPlugged came from Alicia's other CD's.So you had to love those CD's first.Then to get those songs live,I just think that's a bonus for us fans.If Alicia came out with a live verson of AIA,Some of us fans will go crazy.lol. But to each it's own.lol.Peace and Love,BeeStrong.
all tracks of Alicia Keys Albums are great.........
but i mostly like the song "try to sleeping with a broken heart" new songs 2010
Doesn't matter which one I grab on the way out the door , I love them all and can listen to any of them all the way through. Can't leave them in the car. They're all my favorites.
Hey Dane,You are not getting away that eazy.lol. We are talking CD's, Not singles.So what's your favorite CD. Not just one song.lol Give it a try.BeeStrong.
Hey rosalita,You too.lol We need one CD.There has to be one over all that you listen to.I'm like you,I can listen to them all.But we want to know your favorite ONE.Peace,BeeStrong.
Okay, BeeStrong I think I've struggled with this long enough, just kidding. I guess my favorite would have to be T.E.O.F mainly because I believe she only keeps getting better. I love, HOW IT FEELS TO FLY, TRY SLEEPING WITH A BROKEN HEART, THIS BED, AND ESPECIALLY LOVE IS BLIND AND PRAY FOR FORGIVENESS. So it's true it doesn't matter which one I grab, but I guess I do like this one the best. Second would have to be the Unplugged album. Love the live versions. LOL
Hey Rosalita,See now was that so hard.lol.A great choice.Peace,BeeStrong.
NO, BeeStrong, not really so hard at all when I actually slowed down to think about it. Wish everything was that easy. LOL
Hi Everyone,
I love all her music and new songs
Like you I like every thing she has done from the club stuff with EVE, to her Falling...her ballads, and her duet with Usher...she's a genuis...Diary is great too...I think she is Stevie Wonder and Prince in a female form...with a whole lotta NY sexy swagger...My answer would have to be YOU DONT KNOW MY NAME...It's classic and it sounds like it could be a Motown classic yet its post-2000 (which makes it time less.
wreckless love
teenage love affair
or lesson learn
O.K. andersion123,We need a CD.Not a song.Picking any song can be easy,But to pick a CD.Now that's where the hard part comes in.lol So try it. what's your favorite CD.Any answer will be right.lol. Peace,BeeStrong.
Piggybacking on my previous comment; some internet surfing (inspired by a recent tweet by ak - "old skool silly moments"); I came across some Intimate Studio Performances.
Here is a link to one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk6o_B96nhA
These "appear" to be sessions in a studio, most likely for practice or rehearsal purposes; as her "usual band members" are present. It is also possible, that they are "experimenting" with the arrangements; not unlike the way dramatic performers practice a play.
My take from these sessions, is that AK and the band can 'let loose' and not have to worry about "screwing up", so they go for it. That I can relate to.
Back when I was in high school (old skool memories) I was on the A/V team, so I got to play with the stage lights and sound equipment. Our class valedictorian had to record a 5 minute speech as part of a scholarship submission; and she was as nervous as hell. Every time she KNEW the tape machine was recording, she flubbed her lines. She could not help it. So, I pulled a "fast one" on her.
I had her turn around so she could not see the recorder, and told her to do a "run through"; and not worry if she screwed up. So, she ran through it, and it was perfect. What she did not know, and I gave the teacher who was overseeing this a stern look to keep her mouth SHUT; was that she was being recorded. She was able to pull it off because as far as she knew, she had the room to screw up, but didn't.
Most people just do not have any idea of how much work artists like AK must perform to come out perfect when the appear on stage. It takes a lot of work. I think you can see that if you were to check out one of those clips.
BTW - there is one YT clip of an appearance on Oprah, where Oprah asks AK about an embarrassing moment. AK relates an incident where she was performing at a small club and some guys in the back were talking during one of her songs. So, AK says that she decided to get up and get their attention; but unfortunately, she did not look down and tripped over the monitor speakers on stage. After the tumble, she gets up, and belts out: "I keep on fallin'". I guess she did get their attention.
Some of these are from TEOF album deluxe addition. When I ordered it a lot of the comments stated it was boring.??? People! ??? Some can't appreciate talent.
Hey ITGeeK,It's been a long time,good to hear from you.What rosaita said is true.most of the video's are from TEOF Deluxe CD set.I just thought that Alicia added that just to give us fans a little bonus.And it's a good marketing plan too.Like me i got both TEOF CD's.I got the first CD without the video,So i had to get the CD with the bonus video.I just love to see footage of artist in the studio.It let you see a lot of things about that artist. But this session was a control environment.No one was loose.But i still love it. And i have to say thanks to Alicia Keys for giving us something extra.She didn't had to do it ,But she did.So THANK YOU ALICIA KEYS.lol Peace,BeeStrong.

@BeeStrong,
I was not aware of the `Deluxe Edition`, until after I got TEOF. I should have done my homework!
From a marketing perspective, that was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the clips posted on YT suffer from stuttering, etc; because of the low frame rates. This also applies to MANY YT clips, and to clips that were taken by cell phones. Let's get real, a cell phone video taken from 20 feet away, with miserable quality audio, I quickly stop the `suffering` - no matter who is the artist. There may be a few exceptions - like for old footage, etc; things in a historical perspective; but I avoid viewing poor quality videos when possible. I wonder if there is some way to get that extra CD separately? It would be worth it.
Hey ITGeeK,I'm with you on that.I hate bad or poor quality audio and video.But the audio and video quality on Alicia's CD is picture perfect.Clear as can be.I think you can only get it with the CD.I don't think they are selling it separately.you know, the marketing thing.You get 2 for 1.And Alicia's site is still selling it.(the Deluxe version).Peace,BeeStrong.
@BeeStrong,
I kind of figured that!
Perhaps I will do some surfing and see who has it on line for the lowest cost, because as I already have TEOF without the bonus features.
IIRC, didn't they do the same thing with the "Unplugged" CD?? Perhaps it is time to take the hammer to the `piggy bank`?
They did the same thing with the AIA CD. When I ordered it, I accidentally ordered it with the DVD and was pleasantly surprised. Wasn't even aware there was a DVD for it. Target is one store that usually has the deluxe edition for TEOF. I found it there after I ordered it. Both DVD's are really good but it would be nice if we knew all this before purchasing just the CD which I did also with TEOF. Guess we'll have to be more on top of things next time. LOL
This is my ranking:
1) the element of freedom;
2) As I am;
3) Songs in A minor;
4) The diary of...
All good albums, but I love "the element of freedom" and "As I am". GREAT ALBUMS!!!

OK, I am up LATE at night searching for the solution to a client's problem, and I decided to take a break.
In a previous post, I stated that I could not comment on As I Am because I did not have it. Well, that is no longer the case.
For us computer geeks, you can not have enough hard drive space, and one drive in my 3 drive system was quite small, and getting quite OLD. I was able to locate the same drive that I last used to up the storage space at Amazon, and so, while I was already paying for shipping, the weight of a CD is `nothing`.
I found quite a few different versions of `As I Am` on Amazon, and picked the Super Edition with the bonus DVD (concert recording from the Coronet Theater in London, July, 2008); with 3 extra tracks :`Another Way To Die` from `Quantum of Solace; Dontcha Know (Sky Is Blue) and Saviour.
I have heard some of the tracks on As I Am previously, either from YT video downloads, or radio airplay; but there were a couple of surprises. I heard what sounded like something that reminded me of the late 60's or early 70's. A couple of tracks with an organ? OK, let me see if my coffee deprived brain can find the name of the performer whose `sound` was hinted at in that one track. The name that tries to `pop up` is Al Green, but I need some sleep, and more time to focus my thoughts. And at least one or two more complete listening sessions are also required.
Gianluca, you forgot one album. The Unplugged album was not in your ratings. True it does have songs from the other albums, but to me the songs are much better live. Have you heard it? It's definitely worth listening to. Also ITGEEK I had never heard all of the AIA album until after I rated them. I still like TEOF and Unplugged better although there are some really good songs on the AIA album. Wreckless Love, Tell You Something, Where Do We Go From Here, Go Ahead, and of course Superwoman and No One. Anyway like BeeStrong said any of the albums would be the right answer because they're all great.
@rosalita,
`Go Ahead` was one of those on AIA that I had heard before courtesy of a YT download. Someone took that song and coupled it with some video scenes from AK's Smoking Aces performance.
The scenes chosen were:
AK's character `suiting up` (packing the `heat` and putting on the wig. Something us guys appreciated!)
The short scene where she encounters the 3 freaks at the elevator (I love the snarky reply to them: "[Slur Deleted]got Ass Rednecks" - BTW, I wonder how many times the director made her go through that line with different vocal and facial inflections. The `blooper reel` only knows.)
Then the shootout scene
Finally Common's character carrying AK down the stairs.
IMHO, the other 4 AK CD's are tied for first place, don't count AIA out YET; I have only listened to it once. And, I still need to get the name associated with the `hinted at` early 70's performer straight.
ITGEEK, I'm glad you enjoyed Smokin' Aces. I personally could not get into that movie. I just don't care for shooting and killing movies. Anyway I did enjoy The Secret Life of Bees. I think Alicia was very good in that movie, not that she wasn't in Smokin' Aces. From what I saw she was very good in it too. I liked the water fight in The Secret LIfe of Bees with her and Dakota Fanning. Since the movie was done in cold weather I would guess that wasn't a very fun scene for either of them.
@ rosalita:
Thank you for information. I'll hear the Unplugged album when I'll take it!
P.S. In this moment I'm hearing "How does it feel to fly?". What a beautiful song!!! Take my soul!
